Brainstorming prompt

MASH began as an unfunny, very offensive novel, which later became an unfunny Vietnam war protest film, then a popular television comedy. What can you change to a new medium and give an improved spin? If you read the novel, you know what I'm talking about. The TV show was a definite improvement, getting rid of a lot of that racism and irreligious stuff. Think about what kinds of things you can improve.
